Curriculum Overview

Ann Arbor Children's House Montessori is a traditional Montessori preschool offering a morning and extended-day program for children ages three to six.

In a typical Montessori classroom children are given free choice of activities. While they do participate in many group activities such as singing, movement games and celebrations the majority of their time is spent at what is called “work time. “ During this time children are free to choose what material they want to work with and for the duration they want. Children are also taught lessons or presentations of materials individually or in small and sometimes larger groups. The activities and lessons are divided into five categories. At the Ann Arbor Children’s House the classroom is prepared with materials and activities from these five categories and emphasis is placed on “work time.” Following is a description of the five categories and lessons contained in each.
